Our Story

The story behind the sweets

Every bake has a beginning.

Every hero has an origin story. Even when the hero is a cookie.

Made with a little heart.

Fables Bakehouse began long before it had a name.

When I was younger, I loved watching old movies with my Grandma Anna. One that stayed with me was Sabrina, Audrey Hepburn in Paris, learning to cook. And somewhere in those scenes, the idea of baking for a living took root.

Then life moved forward. I spent years raising my family and supporting my husband Lee’s career, while that early dream stayed quietly in the background. When Lee was at the height of his career, I started thinking about what our version of retirement might look like. I knew he was never going to stop writing, creating, or wanting to be around people, and I still wanted a kitchen of my own, which is where the idea of a comic shop and café came from. Lee would have the comics, games, writers, and artists. I would have the kitchen, the coffee, and the food. A place where people could be fed in more ways than one.

After Lee passed, it took time to understand what that dream could look like without him. Eventually, I realized I didn’t have to give it up. I could start smaller.

So, I started Fables. Today, Fables is growing from a commercial kitchen, one batch, one recipe, one order at a time. Built around nostalgic bakes and family stories, But it has never been only about baked goods. It’s about building a place that holds my dreams and makes room for others too. A place my daughters can be proud to call theirs someday. A place where we can honor our family’s past, enjoy the present and build something that lasts into the future. The shape of the dream has changed, but not its heart. Good food, good stories, a place to belong and something worth passing on.”

What matters to us.

Thoughtful ingredients

We use familiar ingredients with care, choosing what gives each bake the flavor and texture it needs. Nothing overly fussy — just good ingredients, well made.

A welcoming table

The dream behind Fables has always been bigger than dessert. We want to build a place where people can gather, connect, create, and feel like there’s room for them at the table.

We’d love to hear your story.
